Stolen Car Chase Turns Fatal

Marrero (December 14, 2018)- Friday afternoon, a stolen vehicle crashed following a brief car chase, leaving one dead.

Reports had arrived two days previous about the  stolen 2015 Toyota Prius. The car was taken from New Orleans. The day of the crash, a license plate recognition camera picked up the vehicle’s location.

Around 2:20 p.m., authorities spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop it.This led the driver, a 16-year-old boy, to flee. Shortly after, the boy lost control, colliding with a Chevrolet Silverado and a parked Ford Fiesta. The Silverado struck the passenger side, killing a 15-year-old boy seated on that side.

Paramedics took the driver to the hospital. Eventually, authorities booked him and transported him to the Jefferson Parish juvenile detention center. His charges include manslaughter, possession of stolen property and aggravated flight from an officer.
