3M Earplug Lawsuit: What You Need to Know
Recently, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) looked into a potential threat. This threat was not overseas, or a secret plot. No, it was a threat found in products issued to the service men and men in our own military.
The product is a dual-sided combat earplug, supplied to the U.S. military by the 3M Company (3M). Thousands of service men and women have been affected by the design defects discovered in this product. If you meet certain criteria, Mike Brandner Injury Attorneys can help you file a 3M earplug lawsuit. Give us a call today to learn about your legal rights.
3M Defective Product Facts
3M combat earplugs were given to active service men and women from 2003 to 2015. The product, called Dual-Ended Combat Arms™ Earplugs, version 2 (CAEv2), offered two different levels of protection. One side supposedly worked as regular earplugs and the other blocked out extreme sound levels.
However, there were many problems with the earplugs. First, they would come loose without the knowledge of the wearer. Second, the earplugs themselves were too short. High-level, extreme sounds like gunfire and explosions were not adequately stifled. The effects were not optimal.
Long-Term Injuries and Impairments
Service men and women who wore 3M earplugs were unknowingly made more susceptible to hearing loss and other ear injuries. Many of these wearers now suffer from permanent hearing loss or tinnitus. Unfortunately, these health conditions complicate continuing service in the armed forces, finding a job after serving, and their general quality of life.
3M Earplug Lawsuit
Recently, a whistleblower 3M earplug lawsuit under the False Claims Act claimed that the company sold defective products to the U.S. Military that were then issued to service men and women. In summer 2018, 3M paid $9.1 million to the military to resolve the allegation.
In doing so, the 3M Company never accepted blame. Also, military personnel affected by the earplugs will not receive any of those millions. However, Mike Brandner Injury Attorneys offers a way for eligible service men and women to receive compensation.
